Scott - I like Arma, but It can be a bitch to set-up and unless you play on 1 server primarily it's difficult to keep up to date.
I suggest addon sync and pick one server and stay with it.

=TCC= Clan History - Are you sitting comfortably, children - Then I'll begin...
The history of TCombat.com and =TCC=

September 2006, way before =TCC= and TCombat, there was 'The Previous Clan', which Scott, CJ, Jake, Tom, Spec Ops, Ebola and Ranger used to be members of.  'The Previous Clan' was a great place in the beginning, it was fun and the members there were more than helpful.  All was good for about a year, we were still playing BF2 on a 24/7 Dragon Valley server and having a good time, but the server was getting old fast and some variety needed to be injected into the formula.

Scott and CJ got organised (hold on I can't say that with a straight face) and decided to get a group together to breath some life back into BF2 and play some of the great mods that are out there.  Most of the clan jumped on board immediately, Scott managed to scramble, barter, make deals and scrape enough together to get a dedicated box at Art of War Central.  We promptly set up the servers with POE, PR, BF2 and rFactor.  All was good for a while...

After about two months cracks began to show.  None of the founder members were particularly interested in the new server, instead they would play on the old box and not the new box, citing ping as their problem.  When Scott asked that they give it a fair whack - some said they would, but the response was still 'we'd rather play on the BF2 server'.  Scott’s frustration with the clan began to grow as only a few supported the idea of the American server and dedicated box.

At the same time CJ was having his own problems with the clan, certain members new to the clan were causing trouble, mainly in the forum at first over the dedicated box and its ping related issues.  The new member was a friend of one of the founder members.  After a quick chat with the founder members it was agreed that the trouble-making member should leave, which he did (but only for a while - the founder member had a secret agenda to bring the trouble making member back into the clan, slowly).  Rules were written in the forum about the use of Ventrilo and other services, which included the use of Ventrilo for clan members only.  One night after spotting the trouble making member back in Vent, CJ confronted him, asking him to leave - as the Ventrilo server was for the use of clan members only, which he did, reluctantly.  The next day, the clan rules changed, without any consultation with the clan, allowing the trouble making member back into the Ventrilo server.

Some of the emails at the time:

This shits gonna go on for months and months..... whilst I enjoyed my time @ 'The Previous Clan' for the first 10+ months, the last 2+ weeks have been a real pain in the arse and it’s mainly due to the NEW members that have arrived, as the team work I experienced yesterday was the best ever (and I though everyone was making the effort in the team play department, and things were really improving – hopefully not just for me – although, I did make a big deal out of it).

Whilst, I appreciate Ogman’s gesture of putting up a PEACE post, some arseholes won’t give it a rest – I know if I post I will get jumped all over from Mr.Skinner / Bri and any other arsehole and his cat that wants to have a pop.  I really hope Ogman gets along with everyone, I think he’s a good guy but his mouth engages before his brain, and if egged on by the wrong influences he can be lead in the wrong direction.   After you posted it was always my plan to wait a bit and see what happened and sure enough, more shit slinging.

This time I SHALL NOT be coming back, last time was a mistake, which some people have interpreted as me throwing my toys out the pram – however I did it because I have friends here which I can’t just drop like a stone, you being one of them.  I’ll let you know what I am doing (probably trialling for a new clan) – but don’t expect too much from me at the moment, I shall definitely not be back on the server other than to close my account down at a later date – I just don’t want the hassle of closing it down and everyone saying where’s he gone.

Also, please don’t let anyone know I have left, except maybe Jake and Specs (don’t have Jakes email address) – Last time, I got a bit pissed off with the emails that kept popping in through the mail box saying ‘come back’ – as I said once I have made a decision then I shall stick to it.  Anyways, I shall let you know what I am doing in the fullness of time.

Basically if you go I go dude! Your the one thats kept me here for the most part.

So he wants to kick everyone out, except you, brian, loc, mau, dan, ryan, spec and himself  - what happens to Jake and half the recruits (American Lads) – I don’t really mind him not including me, but what’s Jake done.  You can’t exactly play with other people’s money mate, if I remove myself that’s my choice (it’s only my payment you’ll be missing).   You’ll have to stop with 'The Previous Clan' at least until the contract for the servers is over – unless you turn it over to Mau , Loc, Brian or Greg.

Forming something else up -- Yes, I’d like that but getting a clan going takes tons of hard work mate and seeing as there would be only 2 of us to begin with it can be bloody, bloody, bloody hard work – I can’t speak for anyone else. It’s probably better to find a really good clan and join that, bit like the 'The Previous Clan' was before all the crap throwing, split decisions on servers and general bitchiness.  Need to think about starting a new clan, i’m not going anywhere and plus we have a team speak server – I’m tired of writing emails... grrr – okay, i’ll meet you in there.

However, it wasn't just this incident that provoked CJ into leaving the clan.  The general method of game play at 'The Previous Clan' was random, scattered and self serving (I must gain 300 points this round to gain my silver merit badge), with no team play or helpfulness.   It was about this time that CJ decided to leave...

New beginnings - A new clan is formed.

We got together in TeamSpeak and talked it over, present were Jake, CJ, Scott and Tom.  At first Jake and Scott tried to convince CJ to stay with 'The Previous Clan' (but CJ's mind was already made up on leaving for better things), after some while talking we decided that we would form a new clan, again CJ wasn't exactly overwhelmed with this idea but decided to give it a try and we started to make plans.  We'd need a website, TeamSpeak / Ventrilo facilities and rules which the entire clan would stick to (once bitten - twice shy).

=TCC= was formed on 1st June 2007, it took approximately two days to settle on a name, we went through numerous wordings and looking up of other clan tags to find the right one, before settling on what we presently have (even after searching we happened to clash with another clan who uses TCC - sorry).  Next we designed the website and the forum. Scott told 'The Previous Clan' what was happening and where he was going and promptly left 'The Previous Clan'. We sent emails to all the clan members letting them know what we were up to and giving them an option to join if they wanted. Scott also negotiated with the clan members from 'The Previous Clan' about the server allowing them to use parts of the server for their games, until the contract ran out.

We started the clan with four main founders - Scott, CJ, Jake Peril and Tom.  Each of these roles had special positions, Scott was responsible for dealing with the server company as it was located in the states, and he was also responsible for setting up and managing the servers as well as finding the best deals on it.  CJ was responsible for the website and the portal, as well as setting up and helping manage the servers.  Tom was responsible for the server statistics and other miscellaneous code creations that litter the site as well as server set ups and managing the servers.  Jake unfortunately was absent for a long time, he was busy wrestling the German government / Army for an internet connection which he still hasn't gotten to this day.  First to join were the guys from the old clan: Spec Ops, Ranger and Ebola - we decided that anyone that's been with the clan for more than a year deserves to be a core member.  These were our first core members having served their time with both =TCC= and with 'The Previous Clan'.

We decided that we should run PR .5 as the main game; it was evolving into a good team based game with huge potential.  We also had our boots in POE and tried out several other mods (which we still do today).  Another reason for choosing PR was that the server had a strong following, was heavily team based and it had the highest number of players outside of vanilla BF2.

Conclusion and recommendations

We decided early on that we could take lessons from the way 'The Previous Clan' was run, which was poorly.  The founder members had all of the power, they controlled the server, Ventrilo and the forums and they didn't really let the clan expand and experiment, they had closed minds to suggestions by clan members and even expanding into dedicated servers. The rules were flexible in favour of themselves and not the clan members they represent.

We decided that we would try and create a clan which would be more focused to it's members, we would have clan meetings where all clan members can vote and discuss the problems of the clan, it would allow our clan members to make the rules, control the servers, it would allow our members to control Ventrilo and how it's used.  Even today new rules and options are being put in place that gives even more freedom to our clan members.   After a full year, we feel that we can only grow stronger.  =TCC= is a place where everyone has a say in the clan, it's a place where everyone can get along and play some good games together.

Simulation and reality games

We are very much a reality or simulation based clan, preferring games with a foot in reality than those set in the future, although, we have been known to play games like Battlefield 2142 and ETQW.  We find that the reality / simulation games allow us to prepare tactics and plans which other games don't allow for.  When we were at our previous clan the guys there didn't want to play tactically or to have any sort of game plan. At =TCC= we encourage our members to play tactically and to have a game plan, hopefully this doesn't cut down on the fun.  However, instead of cutting the fun factor, it makes it even more enjoyable to see the plans and tactics actually working in a gaming environment.

The future and =TCC=

We hope to keep growing and to add more members to our ranks.  It hasn't been determined how large =TCC= will grow, but we hope to keep the same friendly atmosphere that we currently have.  We are presently playing a lot of .7 Project Reality and are becoming stronger in Armed Assault, with lots of members playing and enjoying this game.  New games are always available to try and test.  With .8 Project Reality, ArmA and a new co-located server things can only get better.
